Regular Season Round 23: Cortegada - Oviedo 72-68

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Oviedo (4-19) lost to tenth ranked Cortegada (10-13) in Vilagarcia Arousa 68-72 on Saturday. Oviedo trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 20-11 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 68-72 at the end of the game. Cortegada looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Cortegada's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Carolina Ramos (190-93) answered with 26 points and 9 rebounds and Ana Fernandez (175-93, college: Canisius) added 13 points in the effort for Oviedo. Cortegada maintains tenth place in Group A with 10-13 record. Oviedo lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 19 games lost. Cortegada will face higher ranked Adareva (#4) in SC Laguna in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oviedo will play at home against Aros Leon (#6) and hope to win that game.
