Regular Season Round 23: Valladolid Univ. - Santurtzi 71-69

There was a change at the EBA leadership position after last games. Round 23 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Santurtzi (15-4). They were edged by ninth ranked Valladolid Univ. (8-11) 71-69 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Santurtzi. Santurtzi was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 19-12 charge of Valladolid Univ., which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Santurtzi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for forward Axel Castillo (194-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points and 4 assists. Point guard Pablo Esteban (183-93) helped adding 12 points. Four Valladolid Univ. players scored in double figures. Forward Alex Hernandez (190-93) responded with 26 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and forward Joseba Iglesias (200-83) scored 16 points. Valladolid Univ. maintains ninth place in Group A-A with 8-11 record. Santurtzi at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Pielagos and Ardoi. They were replaced at the leadership position by Badajoz. Santurtzi will play next round against Cantbasket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Valladolid Univ. will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Mondragon on the road.
