Regular Season Round 23: Arxil Pontev. - RC Celta 61-69

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Arxil Pontevedra (11-12) lost at home to ninth ranked Real Celta Vigo (11-12) 69-61 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Arxil Pontevedra won third quarter 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Celta Vigo forced 20 Arxil Pontevedra turnovers. Guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 27 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Cristina Loureiro (183-94) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American-Jamaican power forward Yanique Gordon (193-91, college: Cent.Florida) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Maria Gonzalez (180-93) added 11 points in the effort for Arxil Pontevedra. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Real Celta Vigo. They moved-up to seventh place in Group A, which they share with Ensino and Arxil Pontev. Real Celta Vigo will face league's second-placed GDKO Bizkaia in Galdakao in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
