Date: March 20, 2016
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Toros' (11-18) road loss to fourth ranked Gigantes (11-16) 80-85 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Toros won third quarter 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gigantes made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Toros turnovers and had a 28-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) who recorded 18 points and his fellow American import guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five Gigantes and four Toros players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Gigantes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-16 record. Loser Toros keep the fifth place with 18 games lost. Gigantes will face again Toros (#5) in Maracay in the next round.
