Regular Season Round 36: Marinos - Bucaneros 83-89

Date: March 20, 2016
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Puerto La Cruz. First ranked Bucaneros faced second-best Marinos. Guests from La Guaira (19-11) defeated host Marinos (20-10) 89-83. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Marinos were trailing by 12 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 28-21 charge of Bucaneros, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard John Cox (194-81, college: USF, agency: Pensack Sports) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 6 assists and the former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) who added 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Bucaneros players scored in double figures. Bucaneros' coach Luis Guil used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) with 19 points and 8 rebounds and American-Georgian point guard Corey Fisher (186-88, college: Villanova, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 23 points. Despite that victory Bucaneros went down to second position due to points difference. Marinos lost fourth consecutive game. Defending champion still keep top place with ten games lost. Bucaneros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Marinos will play again against the league's second-placed Bucaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
