Regular Season Round 17: Sagesse - Al Riyadi 72-87

Date: March 20, 2016
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Beirut: Al Riyadi (#1) and Sagesse (#7). Sagesse was defeated at home 72-87 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Sagesse was ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 54-33 second half run of Al Riyadi. They also forced 20 Sagesse turnovers. The former international swingman Fadi Khatib (199-79) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points and 4 assists. The former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. Al Riyadi's coach Slobodan Subotic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Todd O'Brien (211-89, college: UAB) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 23 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Terrell Stoglin (185-91, college: Maryland) added 26 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in the effort for Sagesse. Al Riyadi have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-2 record. Sagesse lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Al Riyadi will play against Byblos (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sagesse will have a break next round.
