Regular Season Round 24: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi K/G 86-87

A very close game took place in Ashdod between Maccabi K/G and Maccabi Ashdod. Eleventh ranked Maccabi K/G (8-16) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-13). Maccabi K/G managed to escape with a 1-point win 87-86 on Monday evening. Maccabi K/G made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by swingman Alando Tucker (198-84, college: Wisconsin) who scored that evening 22 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Paul Delaney (188-86, college: UAB, agency: Three Eye Sports) supported him with 21 points and 5 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Even 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists by point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Ashdod. Power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Zvi Sherf rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Maccabi K/G maintains eleventh position with 8-16 record. Loser Maccabi Ashdod dropped to the eighth place with 13 games lost. Maccabi K/G will meet at home higher ranked Hapoel Eilat (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against the league's second-placed Maccabi T-A where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
