Regular Season Round 17: Byblos - Champville 87-73

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Champville (3-12) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Byblos (8-7) 87-73 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Byblos. Champville managed to win third quarter 31-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Champville 42-31 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Bassel Bawji (203-89, college: Tulsa) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) chipped in 22 points and 8 assists. Five Byblos players scored in double figures. Byblos' coach Nenad Vucinic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Marcus Banks (188-81, college: UNLV) scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Byblos moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tadamon and Hoops. Loser Champville dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Louaize. Byblos will meet league's leader Al Riyadi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Champville will play against Louaize (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
