Regular Season Round 29: Mogi - Flamengo 85-88

The most exciting game of round 29 in the NBB took place in Mogi das Cruzes. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Mogi (18-9) to first ranked Flamengo (22-5) 88-85 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mogi. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-12. But Mogi won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Flamengo won last quarter 25-23. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) who scored 19 points. American Jason Robinson (198-80, college: Pikeville) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Flamengo players scored in double figures. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) produced 34 points (!!!) and 4 steals and power forward Lucas Mariano (208-93) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Mogi's coach Danilo Padovani rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Flamengo have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 22-5 record. Mogi at the other side dropped to the third position with nine games lost. They share it with Brasilia and B.Cearense. Flamengo are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Macae (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mogi will play against Sao Jose/Vinac (#14) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
