Regular Season Round 29: Pinheiros - Universo/Vitoria 75-60

No shocking result in a game in Sao Paolo where seventh ranked Pinheiros (14-13) defeated 12th ranked Universo/Vitoria (8-19) 75-60 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. Universo/Vitoria was better in second period 15-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) who scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Lucas Dias Silva (209-95) chipped in 23 points. Center Renan Leichtweis (211-89) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Edu de Oliveira (195-83, college: E.Oklahoma St. JC) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pinheiros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 14-13 record. Newly promoted Universo/Vitoria dropped to the eleventh position with 19 games lost. Pinheiros will face Caxias do Sul (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Universo/Vitoria will play against SKY/Basquete in Aldeota and hope to win that game.
