Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (17-8) beat at home bottom-ranked STB Le Havre (1-24) 97-81 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Pau-Lacq-Orthez. STB Le Havre was better in third quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pau-Lacq-Orthez made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. American point guard Michael Thompson (177-89, college: Northwestern) stepped up and scored 23 points for the winners and his fellow American import forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side naturalized Ivorian swingman Guy Landry Edi (202-88, college: Gonzaga) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Lamont Mack (201-87, college: Charlotte, agency: Interperformances) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Pau-Lacq-Orthez and five STB Le Havre players scored in double figures. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Pau-Lacq-Orthez. They moved-up to third place, which they share with ASVEL. STB Le Havre lost their thirteenth game in a row. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will face Limoges CSP Elite (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. STB Le Havre will play against Chalon/Saor (#8) and hope to win that game.
