Regular Season Round 38: Cocodrilos - Guaros 78-91

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cocodrilos (17-14) in Caracas. Hosts were defeated by Guaros (17-10) 91-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cocodrilos. The game was mostly controlled by Guaros. Cocodrilos was better in fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cocodrilos 41-30 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. International center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) notched 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Even 19 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) by American forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Cocodrilos. His fellow American import forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Five Guaros and four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Cocodrilos at the other side dropped to the second place with 14 games lost. Guaros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cocodrilos will play again at home against the league's leader Guaros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
