Regular Season Round 39: Toros - Gaiteros 77-94

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Maracay where 4th placed Toros (13-19) were defeated by fifth ranked Gaiteros (12-18) 94-77. The game was mostly controlled by Gaiteros. Toros was better in fourth quarter 29-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaiteros dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 38. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Terrence Shannon (203-79, college: Elgin CC, agency: Paris Global Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. American-Dominican guard O'Darien Bassett (189-86, college: Troy) accounted for 18 points and 6 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side. Four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. International guard Elder Gimenez (186-91) came up with 18 points and the former international swingman Rafael Perez (193-82, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 12 points respectively for Toros in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gaiteros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Gigantes. Toros at the other side keep the fourth position with 19 games lost. Gaiteros' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Guaros in Barquisimeto and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toros will play at home against Trotamundos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
