Regular Season Round 12: Tijuana - Hermosillo 80-81

The most exciting game of round 12 in the CIBACOPA took place in Tijuana. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (6-7) to second ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (8-3) 81-80 on Friday evening. It was a good game for American swingman Michael Craig (196-91, college: S.Mississippi) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. The other American import power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) contributed with 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and international forward Fabian Jaimes (198-92) added 22 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Rayos de Hermosillo maintains second position with 8-3 record behind leader Mazatlan, which they share with Guasave. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play again at home against Rayos de Hermosillo (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
