Rather expected game when 9th ranked Monsummano (14-13) was edged at home by sixth ranked Piombino (17-10) 67-65 on Friday. Piombino made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Monsummano was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international forward Mario Gigena (198-77) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Edoardo Persico (208-87, agency: Players Group) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was power forward Giorgio Sgobba (202-92) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds and guard Andrea Maggiotto (194-88) scored 15 points. Four Monsummano players scored in double figures. Piombino moved-up to fifth place in B. Loser Monsummano keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Piombino will face higher ranked Cecina (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Monsummano will play against Bottegone (#13) and hope to win that game.
