The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated La Spezia (24-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Castellammare (14-11) 74-66. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 21-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Castellammare outrebounded La Spezia 47-35 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Latvian forward Liga Vente (191-91, college: Eckerd) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Greta Brunelli (176-90) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Castellammare players scored in double figures. Latvian power forward Lauma Reke (185-86, college: St.Peter's) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and Israeli point guard Federica Alesiani (170-97) added 17 points in the effort for La Spezia. La Spezia's coach Marco Corsolini rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Castellammare maintains sixth place in A2 with 14-11 record. Newly promoted La Spezia still keeps top position with one game lost. Castellammare are looking forward to face Ancona (#13) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Spezia will play against the league's second-placed Ferrara (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
