Halcones (2-0) crushed at home Piratas (0-2) by 20 points 78-58, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Halcones outrebounded Piratas 52-27 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan power forward Jesus Martinez (206-86) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. American forward R.J. McGhee (198, college: Oklahoma City, agency: CGL Sports) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Halcones players scored in double figures. American forward Arnold Fripp (201-93, college: Coppin St.) produced 18 points and his fellow American import swingman Antonio Davis (196-82, college: Urbana) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Halcones will meet Patriotas (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Piratas will play against Cimarrones and hope to win that game.
