Regular Season Round 52: Saitama Bron. - Toyama Grouses 61-87
Date: April 3, 2016
Very expected game when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (4-42) were smashed at home by second ranked Toyama Grouses (33-13) 87-61 on Sunday. The game without a history. Toyama Grouses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 36. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toyama Grouses made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and the other American import Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) supported him with 6 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds by American power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) did not help to save the game for Saitama Broncos. Masaya Ueda added 18 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Saitama Broncos lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 42 games lost. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Saitama Broncos will play again against the league's leader Toyama Grouses (#1) and hope to secure a win.
