Regular Season Round 42: Bucaneros - Toros 81-84

Important game to mention about took place in La Guaira. Fourth ranked Toros (15-21) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging second-best Bucaneros (21-15) 84-81 on Wednesday evening. The guests were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 25-15 Bucaneros' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 84-81 at the end of the game. Strangely Bucaneros outrebounded Toros 43-28 including a 24-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international center Heberth Bayona (210-78, college: St.Francis, NY) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five Toros players scored in double figures. Spanish-Dominican Orlando Sanchez (206-88, college: St.John's) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) added 19 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Bucaneros. Bucaneros' coach Luis Guil tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros maintains fourth position with 15-21 record, which they share with Panteras. Bucaneros at the other side still keep top place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Cocodrilos and Marinos.
