Regular Season Round 5: Mt Gambier - Bendigo B. 95-86

There was a change at the State League leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 5 took place in Mt Gambier between two undefeated teams of League where Mount Gambier Pioneers beat Bendigo Braves (1-1) 95-86 on Friday night. It was a key game for the second position in League. Mount Gambier Pioneers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Bendigo Braves' 40. Forward Luke Jamieson (200-94) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Brad Hill (196-86) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. American guard Jeremy Kendle (186-88, college: Bellarmine) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Damian Johnson (201-87, college: Minnesota, agency: Inception Sports) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Bendigo Braves' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mount Gambier Pioneers (2-0) moved-up to second place in League. Bendigo Braves at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Geelong S.. Bendigo Braves will play next round against NW Tasmania Thunder trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mount Gambier Pioneers will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Chargers in Hobart.
