There was a minor upset in McKinnon where bottom-ranked Cougars (0-3) were defeated by ninth ranked Venom (1-3) 87-78 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Italian guard Nicole Romeo (168-89, college: Washington, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 5 rebounds and Meg Dargan who added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists during the contest. Four Venom players scored in double figures. Venom's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Julie Brookhouse responded with 14 points and Melanie Ioannidis scored 16 points. Venom maintains ninth position in League with 1-3 record. Loser Cougars still closes the standings with three games lost. Venom will face league's second-placed Knox Raiders in Wantirna South in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cougars will play on the road against Wildcats (#10) in Eltham and hope to get finally their first victory.
