We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Dandenong where their biggest opponent Brisbane Spartans (1-2) were defeated by top-ranked Rangers (2-0) 85-77 on Saturday. Rangers outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 51-32 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rangers made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Lauren Scherf (195-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 19 rebounds and forward Chloe Bibby (184-98) who added 27 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-94, college: Utah St.) responded with 27 points and 8 rebounds and American swingman Aja Parham (183-84, college: Boston Coll.) scored 20 points. Four Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. Rangers moved-up to second place in League. Loser Brisbane Spartans dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Rangers will face Lady Cobras (#4) in Kilsyth in the next round. Brisbane Spartans will play at home against Nationals and hope to win that game.
