Regular Season Round 28: Cassino - Empoli 80-75

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Empoli (15-13) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Cassino (20-8) 80-75 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Cassino made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Empoli outrebounded Cassino 46-32 including a 20-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Naturalized Argentinian swingman Manuel Carrizo (198-80, agency: Players Group) fired 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Daniele Grilli (191-87) chipped in 15 points. Cassino's coach Luca Vettese allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Matteo Samoggia (196-90) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Daniele Sesoldi (195-92) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Cassino and four Empoli players scored in double figures. Cassino maintains fourth position in B with 20-8 record. Loser Empoli dropped to the tenth place with 13 games lost. Cassino will face Catanzaro (#8) on the road in the next round. Empoli will play against Maddaloni and hope to win that game.
