No shocking result in a game in Mount Waverley where leader Waverley Falcons (4-0) won against 7th ranked Magic (1-3) 96-79 on Saturday. Waverley Falcons dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Magic's 32. Waverley Falcons had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Center Matthew Hodgson (211-91, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and guard Dexter Kernich-Drew (201-91, college: Washington St.) chipped in 25 points. Jack Barry responded with 18 points and 5 assists and point guard Kirk Smith (178) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Waverley Falcons moved-up to second place in League. Loser Magic dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Waverley Falcons will face Whittlesea City (#12) in Mill Park in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Magic will play at home against Hume City Broncos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
