The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Buccaneers' (3-3) road loss to first ranked Cougars (5-1) 89-104 on Saturday. Cougars dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Buccaneers' 52. Cougars forced 20 Buccaneers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Buccaneers' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cougars made 11 blocks. American center Marcus Goode (208-88, college: Benedict) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 18 rebounds and 8 blocks for the winners and forward Rhett Della Maddalena (200-81) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Cougars' coach Matthew Parsons used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Matthew Adekponya (194-90) responded with 31 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Maurice Barrow (196-92, college: Fairfield) scored 21 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cougars maintains first place in League with 5-1 record. Loser Buccaneers dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Cougars will face Slammers (#7) in Bunbury in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Buccaneers will play at home against Flames and hope to win that game.
