Regular Season Round 5: Illawarra H. - Manly Warr. 77-76

There was an upset when higher ranked Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (1-3) were edged on the road by twelfth ranked Hawks (1-4) 77-76 on Saturday. Hawks outrebounded Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 47-35 including 17 on the offensive glass. Forward Tom Garlepp (203-86, college: UCSB) stepped up and scored 27 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Sean Mullan (198-90, college: Nova SE) chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. Four Hawks players scored in double figures. Guard Steven White (182-90, college: Alaska-Anch.) responded with 12 points and 6 rebounds and guard Dominique Cooks (193-89, college: Chaminade) scored 14 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hawks left bottom position moving up to tenth place in League. Loser Manly Warringah Sea Eagles dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Hawks will face higher ranked Spiders (#6) in Hornsby in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
