Regular Season Round 26: Souffel - St Quentin 68-72

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Souffelweyersheim (10-16) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Saint-Quentin (13-14) 72-68 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But Souffelweyersheim won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saint-Quentin forced 19 Souffelweyersheim turnovers. Strangely Souffelweyersheim outrebounded Saint-Quentin 34-20 including 26 on the defensive glass. Souffelweyersheim was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Ryan Evans (203-90, college: Wisconsin) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import swingman Daviin Davis (193-85, college: Weber St.) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. Four Saint-Quentin players scored in double figures. Swingman Gaylor Curier (197-92) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and center Moustapha Diarra (204-87, college: USF) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Saint-Quentin moved-up to tenth place. Souffelweyersheim lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 16 games lost. Saint-Quentin will face league's leader Hyeres-Toulon at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Souffelweyersheim will play against Denain Voltaire (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
