Regular Season Round 53: Toyama Grouses - Saitama Bron. 99-70

BJ League top team - Toyama Grouses (34-13) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Saitama Broncos (4-43) 99-70. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Saitama Broncos managed to win fourth quarter 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Saitama Broncos 44-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyama Grouses looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Saitama Broncos' players. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Joho Masashi (183-82) chipped in 19 points and 7 assists. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American swingman Seth Tarver (196-88, college: Oregon St.) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) scored 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 34-13 record, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Saitama Broncos lost twelfth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 43 games lost. Toyama Grouses is again looking forward to face Saitama Broncos (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Saitama Broncos will have a break next round.
