Regular Season Round 5: Eastern M. - Woodville W. 65-107

Rather predictable result in Mt. Barker where seventh ranked Woodville Warriors (2-2) smashed bottom-ranked Eastern Mavericks (0-4) 107-65 on Sunday. Woodville Warriors made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Eastern Mavericks turnovers and outrebounded them 46-25 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Nelson Kirksey (190-89, college: UMKC, agency: Octagon Europe) stepped up and scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Darren Ng (189-83) chipped in 22 points. Haydn Barns responded with 15 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Tom Cioffi (197-87) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Woodville Warriors maintains seventh place in League with 2-2 record. Loser Eastern Mavericks still closes the standings with four games lost. Woodville Warriors will face higher ranked Sturt Sabres (#4) in Pasadena in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eastern Mavericks will play at home against Central District Lions (#8) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
