Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (4-44) were outplayed on the road by first ranked Toyama Grouses (35-13) 112-69 on Sunday. The game without a history. Toyama Grouses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 24 and made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game, while Saitama Broncos only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Saitama Broncos 51-25 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Toyama Grouses looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Masaya Ueda who recorded 19 points and 5 assists and American swingman Seth Tarver (196-88, college: Oregon St.) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 35-13 record, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Saitama Broncos lost thirteenth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 44 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face Yokohama BC (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Saitama Broncos will play against Tokyo Cinq R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
