Second Stage Round 5: Al Riyadi - Moutahed 79-73

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Beirut. First ranked Al Riyadi faced second-ranked Al Moutahed. Host Al Riyadi (18-3) defeated guests from Tripoli (12-9) 79-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Moutahed. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-73. Strangely Al Moutahed outrebounded Al Riyadi 46-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Chris Daniels (212-84, college: Texas A&M-CC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) chipped in 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Al Riyadi's coach Slobodan Subotic used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Ivorian-French power forward Herve Lamizana (208-81, college: Rutgers) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and the former international power forward Charles Tabet (205-87, college: S.Alabama) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Four Al Moutahed players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-3 record. Loser Al Moutahed keeps the second position with nine games lost. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Hoops Club.
