Regular Season Round 33: Ventspils - Liepaja/Triobet 100-77

An interesting game for Ventspils (26-7) which hosted in Ventspils 3rd placed Liepaja/Triobet (22-11). Second ranked Ventspils had an easy win 100-77. The game was mostly controlled by Ventspils. Liepaja/Triobet was better in third quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Liepaja/Triobet 44-26 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Liepaja/Triobet was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Bulgarian point guard Willie Deane (188-80, college: Purdue, agency: Higher Vision Sports) stepped up and scored 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and power forward Artjoms Butjankovs (205-91) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Ventspils players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard David Hicks (183-88, college: LIU Brooklyn) with 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Kris Richard (196-89, college: Tulane) scored 9 points and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ventspils have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 26-7 record behind leader Valmiera. Liepaja/Triobet at the other side keeps the third position with 11 games lost. Ventspils will play against Jurmala (#4) on the road in the next round. Liepaja/Triobet will play against the league's leader Valmiera and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
