Round 19 in CIBACOPA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Tijuana where host Tijuana Zonkeys (8-12) beat league's leader Ostioneros de Guaymas (11-5) 93-76 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ostioneros de Guaymas. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Ostioneros de Guaymas' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tijuana Zonkeys made 7 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan) fired a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Lathan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Justin Bocot (193-88, college: S.Illinois) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Mike Dabney (203-88, college: Bowling Green) added 19 points respectively for lost side. Five Tijuana Zonkeys and four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains eighth place with 8-12 record. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Guasave. They were replaced at the leadership position by Hermosillo. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play next round against Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Tijuana Zonkeys will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Frayles de Guasave on the road.
