There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Moncalieri (6-22) edged at home higher ranked Lecco (17-11) 76-74 on Saturday. Moncalieri made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Lecco only scored seven points from the stripe. Lecco was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Christian Villani (200-82, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. The former international power forward Francesco Conti (205-83) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Moncalieri players scored in double figures. Moncalieri's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Andrea Dagnello (190-91) answered with 26 points and 4 assists and center Giorgio Piunti (206-90, agency: SPORTlab Agency) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Lecco. Moncalieri moved-up to fifteenth place in B. Lecco lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. Moncalieri will face higher ranked Volpino (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lecco will play against Sangiorgese (#14) and hope to win that game.
