Regular Season Round 28: Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hertzeliyya 79-88 OT

Bnei Hasharon (15-13) outlasted Maccabi Haifa (16-12) in overtime by nine points 88-79 on Saturday night. The game took place in Haifa. But the guests from Hod Hasharon were better at the end. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime then Maccabi Haifa managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Bnei Hasharon who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-2. Bnei Hasharon outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 40-28 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bnei Hasharon made 7 blocks. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Drew Crawford (196-90, college: Northwestern) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Iftach Ziv (186-95) who added 17 points, 5 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Five Bnei Hasharon players scored in double figures. At the losing side Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 23 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Bnei Hasharon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the third position with 12 games lost. Bnei Hasharon will face Maccabi Ashdod (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi Rishon (#7) in Rishon Le-Zion and hope to win that game.
