No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked Empoli (16-13) crushed at home 13th ranked Maddaloni (7-22) 80-57 on Saturday. Empoli dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Maddaloni's 28. They outrebounded Maddaloni 41-30 including 27 on the defensive glass. Power forward Michele Bei (200-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Matteo Samoggia (196-90) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Empoli players scored in double figures. Empoli's coach Giovanni Bassi felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized Argentinian swingman Pedro Rubbera (-81) answered with 11 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Antonio Zamo (198-91) added 7 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Maddaloni. Empoli moved-up to ninth place in B. Loser Maddaloni keeps the thirteenth position with 22 games lost. Empoli will face league's second-placed Palestrina in Roma in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maddaloni will play at home against Scauri (#7) and hope to win that game.
