Regular Season Round 21: Los Mochis - Hermosillo 90-70

CIBACOPA round 21 caused change at the leadership position. Seventh defeat of league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (13-7) against tenth ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (7-11) 90-70 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. Pioneros Los Mochis dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Rayos de Hermosillo's 34. Pioneros Los Mochis looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pioneros Los Mochis made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American Leon Gibson (206-91, college: Houston) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international guard Jose Estrada (194-94, college: High School) contributed with 18 points and 6 assists for the winners. American power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import point guard Pe'shon Howard (190-90, college: USC) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rayos de Hermosillo. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros Los Mochis moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Agua Prieta. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Guaymas. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Pioneros Los Mochis will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas at home.
