Regular Season Round 5: Ballarat R. - Sandringham S. 77-71

Rather predictable result when third ranked Ballarat Rush (2-2) won against bottom-ranked Sabres (0-5) in Wendouree 77-71 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ballarat Rush dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Sabres' 26. They outrebounded Sabres 46-26 including a 34-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Joy Burke (196-90, college: Arizona St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. Guard Abigail Wehrung (177-95) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. British guard Eilidh Simpson (170-92, college: St.Francis, NY) answered with 20 points and American guard Amy Patton (178-91, college: N.Arizona) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sabres. Sabres' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ballarat Rush maintains third place in League with 2-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Nunawading S. Loser Sabres still closes the standings with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
