We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Hawthorn where sixth ranked Hume City Broncos (4-3) won against 5th ranked Magic (1-5) 86-81 on Sunday. Magic was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Jermaine Maybank (193-82, college: Kansas St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import forward Jamal Brown (198-78, college: TCU) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Patrick McBrearty who recorded 18 points and Jack Barry added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Magic's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hume City Broncos moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Magic dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Hume City Broncos will face Bulleen Boomers (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Magic will play against Knox Raiders and hope to win that game.
