Regular Season Round 56: Fukushima - Sendai 89ers 81-83

Fifth-ranked Fukushima (29-21) gave a tough game to second ranked Sendai 89ers (36-14) on Sunday. The visitors from Sendai managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-81. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sendai 89ers made 8 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Swingman Le'Bryan Nash (201-92, college: Oklahoma St.) produced 25 points and 9 rebounds and forward Stephan Van Treese (206-90, college: Louisville, agency: Inception Sports) added 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Sendai 89ers maintains second position with 36-14 record behind leader Kyoto Hannar. Loser Fukushima keeps the fifth place with 21 games lost. They share the position with Iwate Big Bulls. Sendai 89ers will meet at home Akita Happinets (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Fukushima will play against Gunma and hope to secure a win.
