There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (19-12) was outplayed at home by eighth ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (19-12) 87-58 on Saturday. The game without a history. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great evening for American center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse, agency: Inception Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Nicolas Lang (199-90, agency: Beo Basket) helped adding 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) responded with 20 points and the other American import power forward J.K. Edwards (202-82, college: UNLV) scored 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Pau-Lacq-Orthez. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will face higher ranked Le Mans (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
