Regular Season Round 83: Lanus - Boca Jrs 73-58

Date: April 24, 2016
There was a small surprise in Buenos Aires where tenth ranked Lanus (23-31) defeated 8th ranked Boca Juniors (23-31) 73-58 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Lanus. Boca Juniors was better in second period 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Boca Juniors to just 2 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Boca Juniors 48-32 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Boca Juniors was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Rodney Green (196-88, college: La Salle) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Juan Pablo Cantero (184-82) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Adrian Boccia (195-82) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and center Kevin Hernandez (204-91) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lanus moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Boca Jrs and Quilmes MP. Lanus will face higher ranked CASLA (#3) in Almagra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
