Regular Season Round 27: Agua Prieta - Obregon 110-97

No shocking result in a game in Agua Prieta where eighth ranked Vaqueros (10-14) defeated 10th ranked Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon (8-16) 110-97 on Wednesday. Strangely Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon outrebounded Vaqueros 40-20 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon's players. The game was also dominated by American players. It was a great evening for forward Dominique Keller (205-88, college: Illinois) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) helped adding 29 points and 5 rebounds. Keller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Vaqueros' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Damon Smith (200-88, college: Mary) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Malcolm Canada (191, college: Auburn) scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Vaqueros maintains eighth place with 10-14 record. Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon lost ninth consecutive game. Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. Vaqueros will meet at home higher ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
