Regular Season Round 27: Guasave - Guaymas 78-91

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Guasave. Third ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas faced 4th placed Frayles de Guasave. Guests from Guaymas (16-8) defeated host Frayles de Guasave (14-10) 91-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. Ostioneros de Guaymas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Frayles de Guasave's 32. They outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 36-21 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American guard Justin Bocot (193-88, college: S.Illinois) helped adding 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Kevin Rogers (206-86, college: Baylor) with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Jordan Williams (198, college: N.Texas) scored 26 points. Frayles de Guasave's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains third place with 16-8 record behind leader Hermosillo. Frayles de Guasave at the other side keeps the fourth position with ten games lost. They share it with Culiacan. Ostioneros de Guaymas will meet Vaqueros (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Frayles de Guasave will play against the league's second-placed Lobos UAD Mazatlan (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
