Regular Season Round 28: MIA Academy - Mgzavrebi 83-97

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Mgzavrebi (#6) and MIA (#8). MIA was defeated at home 83-97 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-83. Mgzavrebi dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to MIA's 44. They outrebounded MIA 52-36 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Avtandili Lominashvili (204-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. American point guard Kaheem Ransom (185, college: Sam Houston St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Mgzavrebi's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Saba Lobjanidze (192-93) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Merab Bokolishvili (196-92) added 21 points in the effort for MIA. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mgzavrebi (14-14) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Rustavi. MIA lost sixth consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the eighth position with 23 games lost.
