There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Panthers (1-7) rolled over bottom-ranked Lions (0-9) in Gawler 94-72 on Saturday. The game without a history. Panthers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Panthers forced 21 Lions turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Lions were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Madeline Cunningham who helped to win the game recording 27 points. Guard Ieva Nagy (177-91, college: Troy) contributed with 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Alisha Carlin answered with 22 points (made all of her eight free throws) and Abigayle Mader added 16 points in the effort for Lions. Four Lions players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panthers left bottom position moving up to ninth place in League. Loser Lions still closes the standings with nine games lost. Panthers will face higher ranked Mavericks (#8) in Mt. Barker in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lions will play on the road against Eagles in Goodwood and look forward to get finally their first victory.
