There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Brisbane Spartans (2-5) lost to seventh ranked Sabres (1-5) in Cheltenham 65-74 on Saturday. Sabres made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Sabres outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 48-27 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American guard Brittany Smart (175-85, college: Cedarville) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Her fellow American import guard Amy Patton (178-91, college: N.Arizona) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Sabres' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American swingman Aja Parham (183-84, college: Boston Coll.) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-94, college: Utah St.) added 16 points in the effort for Brisbane Spartans. Sabres maintains seventh place in League with 1-5 record. Loser Brisbane Spartans keep the fifth position with five games lost. Sabres will face league's leader Spectres in East Burwood in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brisbane Spartans will play at home against Hobart Chargers (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
