Regular Season Round 14: Cimarrones - Halcones 80-75

Liga DirecTV top team - Cimarrones (11-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Halcones (6-8) in Quibdo-Choco 80-75. Cimarrones forced 19 Halcones turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Halcones were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Tyquane Goard (201-93, college: Marshall) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Brandon Sperling (196-90, college: Humboldt St.) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Sperling is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Jose Baquero (199) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and naturalized Venezuelan point guard Jorge Leon (188-79) scored 23 points and 6 steals. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Cimarrones maintains first position with 11-3 record, which they share with Academia. Halcones lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Cimarrones will play against league's second-placed Academia in Montana in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones will play on the road against Piratas (#8) in Bogota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
