Regular Season Round 8: Cockburn C. - Perth Redbacks 116-105

There was no surprise in Hamilton Hill where 11th ranked Redbacks (2-6) were defeated by first ranked Cougars (8-2) 116-105 on Saturday. Cougars dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Redbacks' 44. They outrebounded Redbacks 45-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. Cougars shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cougars made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman Najee Lane (192-88, college: Clark Atlanta) who scored 27 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Swingman Gavin Field (202-89, college: W.Georgia) chipped in 28 points and 8 rebounds. Cougars' coach Matthew Parsons allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American-French guard Jourdan Demuynck (198-90, college: Prairie View A&M, agency: HMS) produced 32 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and forward Lewis Thomas (203-92, college: W.Oregon) added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Cougars maintains first position in League with 8-2 record. Loser Redbacks keep the eleventh place with six games lost. Cougars will face Eagles (#12) in Morley in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Redbacks will play at home against Flames and hope to win that game.
