Regular Season Round 8: Dandenong R. - Geelong S. 87-85

Round 8 in State League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Dandenong where host Dandenong Rangers (3-3) edged league's leader Geelong Supercats (4-3) 87-85 on Saturday evening. Dandenong Rangers dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Geelong Supercats' 34. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Lucas Walker (202-84, college: St.Mary's, CA) who scored 22 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Daequon Montreal (201-87, college: Boise St.) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Dandenong Rangers' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international swingman Nathan Herbert (192-84) produced 19 points and guard Kris Blicavs (193-89) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Dandenong Rangers moved-up to third place in League. Geelong Supercats at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Cockburn C.. Geelong Supercats will play next round against Bandits trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Dandenong Rangers will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked NW Tasmania Thunder in Ulverstone.
